You Were

An empire of treasure

buried beneath a layer of fine sand,

shimmers in a sea of mundanity.

The fractal colors drew me in,

unable to look away

almost

blinding me.

My eyes caught

my heart caught

my mind caught

How dare I hold anything so tight,

when nothing is mine

and it’s never even my place to take.

I repeated it to myself

as I held you like I had been dying in a drought

in a place you deserved no part of.

Moments never come back -

when I look back at today, yesterday and tomorrow

that I spent with you,

I want to know I spent those days in bliss

giving to give,

cradling the dimmest corners

as much as your lightest kisses.

As is nature, a layer of sand will blow over again

burying your presence.

But you will have filled the deepest parts of my being,

for you were perfect

to me.
